I created BunDance Media as an umbrella company for my expanding online empire of blogs, affiliate Web sites and other online and mobile ventures. But what makes it better than the other online publishing companies?

Simple – me!

Using an array of techniques from WordPress and Web design to copywriting and SEO, email marketing, PPC, social media – even video (with somwewhat mixed results!), I’ve worked hard to keep BunDance Media’s portfolio of sites one step ahead of the competition.

But the real difference with BunDance Media is my background – I’ve been a Web developer since 1996, have a PhD in Web technologies, a patent in mobile Web technologies, and as a lecturer, have taught everything from Computer Networks to ProBlogging since 2002, most recently at the University of Reading.

In short, I’ve walked the walk, and now put all of this experience and expertise into my own company, BunDance Media, to transform my own working life as much as it’s transformed the people and companies I’ve worked with.

So yes, if you’re in the online world, we probably have met somewhere.

To jog your memory, here’s a pic of me at SEOMoz’s Link Building London conference in 2011:

And here’s a list of recent conferences and workshops I’ve attended.

I’ve also attended many affiliate marketing, AdSense and link building workshops. If you know of a similar event I should attend, feel free to invite me

Chris Anderson’s now-legendary book The Long Tail introduced the world to the new reality of online markets – namely, that online, there is no scarcity. Shelf space, warehouse space and stock are all infinite online, leading to an explosion of products for sale, regardless of how obscure they may be.

This market of abundance, as Anderson called it, turns normal market dynamics on its head, making it just as profitable to sell unpopular items (the “tail”) as it is the popular items (the “hits”).

The result is that every product you ever wanted (except the flying car – that’s still just an old futurist’s dream) is now on sale somewhere (oooh look, a flying car!), and every niche that has ever been thought of has now been filled to the point of saturation.

This, in short, is the very definition of a BunDance, and at BunDance Media, we aim to compete in the heart of this super-saturated market.

How to compete in a BunDance

But just how can you compete when the competition is so strong and the range of products that can be sold is so vast?

Well, that’s where the new barrier to entry lies. If everyone can throw up a Web site offering drop-ship, affiliate or digital products of literally any kind, then everyone will, resulting in a morass of low-quality me-too sites that Google – and, crucially, customers – loathe.

In contrast, a carefully curated, beautifully copywritten, expertly linked and super-engaging Web site – or as I like to call it, the Holy Grail – will rise above the sea of mediocrity, competing and succeeding in this most impossible of all markets.

That, in a nutshell, is what a BunDance is, and what BunDance Media is all about.
